THE GREATEST HUMANITARIAN CRISIS-2017
According to the UN report that since 1945,the world is facing its largest humanitarian crisis in the form of starvation and famine in four African countries .UN says it is a colossal loss and issued a plea for help from all mover the world to get rid of this catastrophe.Almost twenty million people encountered this danger of starvation in four African countries including Yemen,Somalia,Sudan and Nigeria which are Muslim majority countries.According to the Unicef statement that nearly 1.4 m children are expected to go to starve to death this year which is an alarming figure. In order to avert this calamity huge amount of fund near about $4.4 billion was required by July as it was disclosed by Mr O'Brien .He further added that ''In history we are facing most critical situation''Already we are facing the greatest humanitarian crisis at the inception of this year 2017,since the establishment of UN.Now the condition is more worst and alarming as it is noticed that more than 20 million people in aforesaid four countries are facing starvation and famine which is a devastating catastrophe. Now strong collective efforts are needed from all over the world to eradicate this calamity, contrary to this majority of the people will starve to death and remaining will suffer and consequently die from disease.
Over all condition of children in these four countries is not only shocking but also very miserable and incredible.Maximum children are stunted and deprived of education and school.Their hopes, dreams, future, and desires will be perished in the smoke of time. The progress and development of these areas are on reverse track .Ultimately instability will be enhanced up to uncontrollable condition across these four countries.Already UN Secretary General had issued appeal in this regard last moth for the purpose of collection of funds to help these people but unfortunately only $90 million were collected which were insufficient to meet the requirements of this historical crisis.People all over the world did not respond positively at the generous pledges of UN.
Now let's have a birds eye view of Yemen in the scenario of on going hunger and starvation flood. The condition of Yemen was most shocking in the last year. The children were grown stunt and emaciated due to hunger and starvation and their life was on the verge of death.you can better image the worst condition from this example that a four year children was not bigger in size and physic than infant, in other words they are nearly in the cruel hands of death. As regard their mothers they are entirely helpless under the iron heels and cruel clutches of famine and starvation. The death ratio only in Yemen is one child per ten minutes,It means in every 10 minutes death engulf one child, which is an alarming figure and a matter of great concern. There are half a million children whose ages are under five and they are suffering from malnutrition at the huge level.According to the UN survey and estimate there are 2/3 of Yemeni people out of total 19 million who are suffering from this natural calamity. This ratio indicates the miserable condition of Yemen.More over the on going war between Houthi elements and government has also aggravated the situation.
Let me say some thing pertaining to the condition of Sudan in the perspective of on going starvation and famine.According to the UN report there are approximately one lac people suffering from starvation and famine and not only this but also it is further expected that nearly one million people are about to involve in this bad luck test and are on the brink of hunger.More over according to the UN statement near about 40% of Sudan is adversely effected by this devastating calamity and 4.9 million people are in need of edible material food, nutrition etc. On emergency basis. Now it the responsibility of the world to play their positive role by providing assistance on philanthropic basis. As we already know that this country is under war since 2013 and this war is creating hampering in the way of supply of food and nutrition for common mob.Even in some sensitive areas UN convoys coming under attack which is a matter of great concern for humanitarian staff.
Let's see what is going on over there in Nigeria as UN has declared it as the greatest crises on this content in history.According to the latest up date the militant group known as ''Boko Hram ''has been compelled to retrieve back.During in this insurgency nearly fifteen thousand people have been killed so far and two million have been effected by leaving their homes, town but unfortunately on their retrieval they have to face hunger, starvation and famine,Now they are in need of food and nutrition on urgent basis. We can better judge the exact picture of these people from the UN report in Dec 2016 according to that report ,there were seventy five thousand children at the brink of starvation to death. In the same way more than 7.1 million people in Nigeria and some part of Chad area people were considered to be severely in food crises.
There is brief description of Somalia in the scenario of aforesaid huger crisis. In Somalia approximately 260000 people were engulfed in the mouth of death due to starvation and famine.More over 110 people were reported to death only with in forty eight hour only in one area in March. Here again condition is miserable due to not only lack of food but also there is acute shortage of water, crops, and even livestock. Here there are almost 6.2 million people who are in need of food, water and other nutrition on urgent basis.
